BREAKING NEWS: Oil Depot Fire Extinguished in Kandal

The massive blaze at the Che Lai Pheng Oil Depot in Kandal’s Saang district, has been put out. It took firefighting teams about two hours to extinguish the blaze which started just after 12 noon on Sunday.

13 fire trucks, drawn from the Kandal Provincial Police, the Bodyguard Headquarters and the Interior Ministry responded to the incident. The flames did not spread beyond the depot and no other properties were damaged, but the depot has been completely destroyed and 10,000 litres of oil have been lost.

Kandal’s provincial police commissioner, Major General Chhoeun Socheat, has confirmed that the blaze was caused by an electrical fault in a piece of welding equipment. No injuries have been reported.
